The Engadein House in Oberinn serves as the homeowner's ancestral home and currently operates as a private vacation rental, occasionally open to guests. It underwent a comprehensive core renovation and expansion, which included the addition of an annex housing a spacious staircase serving as a cozy reading nook as well. Strategically placed openings afford residents views of the surrounding natural landscape. While most of the original house's windows were retained, a panoramic window was added to the front facade to frame views of the countryside.
Internally, a visible concrete ceiling was installed to meet structural requirements, allowing for a fully open layout. The kitchen is partitioned by a 190 cm tall wall that does not reach the ceiling, preserving the room's spaciousness. Furniture is strategically placed to define areas without compromising the open floor plan. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom.
Throughout the entire house, oak wood was exclusively used for both flooring and furniture. This deliberate reduction in materials was chosen to achieve a harmonious overall aesthetic. Only the old parlor features different types of wood. Additionally, dark green fabrics were introduced to echo the color palette of the surrounding landscape within the interior space.
